Fresh appeal in Braithwell horror smash

Police have reappealed for witnesses to a head-on smash which left a teenage driver fighting for life.

A blue Citroen AX was travelling towards Wilsic on the B6094 Cockhill Lane, near Braithwell, at about 11.10pm on October 17.

It collided with a beige Vauxhall Vectra going the other way towards Edlington at the junction with Cockhill Lane.

An articulated goods vehicle travelling ahead of the Vauxhall did not stop at the scene but police believe he may be able to assist as a witness.

The Citroen driver, a 19-year-old Doncaster man was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary. He suffered life-threatening leg fractures and facial injuries.

His condition later improved to serious, police said.

The Vauxhall driver, a 54-year-old Edlington man, sustained minor leg injuries.

Anyone who witnesses the accident or saw the manner of driving of either car before the crash is urged to call 01142 202020, quoting incident 1274 of October 17.
