Freezer fire at Wath care home

A FREEZER caught fire at a residential care home in Wath in the early hours of Sunday.

Some residents were evacuated from Sandygate Residential Care Home shortly before 1am after an industrial freezer caught fire, a spokesperson for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

Firefighters from Rotherham and Dearne fire stations were called to the incident and used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames.

The fire caused some damage to the room the freezer was in and most of the residents were not evacuated, the spokesperson added.
