Four pups left abandoned in car park with only two surviving

FOUR pups have been saved after they were found dumped in a park at just eight weeks old.

The Belgian Shepherds were found in the unnamed park before being taken to an undisclosed vets.

They had contracted parvovirus — a nasty virus that causes severe diarrhoea and vomiting in dogs, according to the PDSA.

The condition and often requires intensive nursing and feeding along with a fluid drip and antibiotics to overcome the symptoms, and only two of the pups survived.

Helping Yorkshire Poundies, a Rotherham based animal shelter, were asked to take the dogs in but couldn’t put the dogs in kennels because they did not have suitable foster carers for them.

HYPS said that, like many other centres, it was seeing an increase in dogs being abandoned and in need of rescue.

The centre was able to find a safe centre for the pups but had to incur transport costs to get there.

They aimed to raise £70, but managed to raise £210 for the pups in a bid to get them to their next “safe space” yesterday (July 21).

HYPS added: “We, like many rescues, are sadly seeing a huge increase in very young dogs/puppies being abandoned or otherwise needing rescue spaces.

“We can’t put these dogs in kennels — we’d love to have some experienced puppy fosterers on our books who we can call on when needed

“Please get in touch if you could foster young dogs on short notice.”
