Four in court over Dinnington pizza man ambush

A MAN and three teenagers have pleaded guilty to a Dinnington robbery in which a pizza delivery driver received serious stab injuries.

The 43-year-old victim from First Stop Pizza was ambushed by the four-strong gang in Nursery Road, Dinnington on February 7 this year.

He had to be rushed to Rotherham District Hospital for treatment to his wounds.

Twins Jake and Joseph Stevenson (18), of Woodland Drive, North Anston, and a 16-year-old from North Anston appeared before Recorder Andrew Haslam at Sheffield Crown Court on Monday.

All three admitted theft by joint enterprise in that they stole four pizzas in an insulated bag belonging to First Stop Pizza.

A fourth defendant, Daniel Ball (22), has previously pleaded guilty to robbery and possessing a bladed article.

Ms Megan Rhys, prosecuting, said that the twins and the 16-year-old had initially been charged with robbery but pleas to the lesser offence of theft were acceptable to the prosecution.

The 16-year-old was given bail on condition of his residence and overnight electronic tagging. Jake Stevenson was also bailed.

Mr Errol Ballentyne, for Joseph Stevenson, said he had been transferred to Wathwood Hospital, near Rotherham on March 29 and was subject to a hospital order under the 1983 Mental Health Act.

He was fit to plead but a further psychiatric report and pre-sentence report was necessary to help with his eventual sentencing.

In the meantime he was returned to the hospital.

The hearing was adjourned for sentence at a date to be fixed.
