Four in court on badger baiting charges

FOUR people from the Rotherham area are due to appear at court tomorrow on badger-beaiting charges.

Antonio Miguel Alonso-Brown (22), Connor Alan Podmore (19), Liam Darren Swift (22) and Nathan Swift (20), will appear before North East Derbyshire and Dales Magistrates’ Court, in Chesterfield.

They have been summonsed for offences related to allegations of hunting and unlawfully killing a badger and interfering with a badger sett.

Alonso-Brown, of Shelley Drive, Herringthorpe, Podmore, of Parkvale Drive, Thrybergh, and Liam and Nathan Swift, both of Hague Avenue, Rawmarsh all face three charges including hunting a wild mammal with dogs at land near St John's Road, Unstone, Derbyshire, on June 22 last year, contrary to the Hunting Act 2004.

They also jointly face charges of interfering with a badger sett and killing a badger at the same location, contrary to Section 3 of the Protection of Badgers Act 1992.
