Four arrested for trouble after Millers match

POLICE have revealed that a football fan attacked after the Millers’ 3-0 win over the Bradford City last month was walking with his six-year-old son at the time.

The Bradford fan sustained a serious head injury when he was assaulted by a group of Rotherham fans on Corporation Street.

One 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray and later bailed, following the game on Saturday, November 9.

Police have since arrested a 15-year-old boy, a 17-year-old boy and two 21-year-old men on suspicion of violent disorder.

They too have been bailed while officers investigate.

The Advertiser reported last month that spectators had been arrested following post-match clashes on the terraces and outside New York Stadium, during which a blue smoke bomb was thrown on the pitch.

Stadium staff and police officers were pushed over during the confrontation, which began in the away stand as the game ended.

One man has been charged with a public order offence and assaulting a PC. He is due to appear at Rotherham Magistrates Court today.

Another man has been charged with throwing a missile — he will appear before magistrates on Tuesday, December 24.

A third man has also been given a fixed penalty notice for a public order offence.

None of the fans involved have yet been named by police.
