Former Rotherham mayor charged with indecent assault

FORMER Rotherham mayor Barry Dodson has been charged with indecent assault.

Dodson (67), of Cranworth Road, Rotherham, who spent just three weeks as mayor following a civic ceremony in July, is alleged to have committed the offence against a 13-year-old  girl in 1987.

He has been released on bail and will appear at Sheffield Magistrates Court on December 18.

In a statement issued to the Advertiser earlier this year Mr Dodson’s solicitor, Steve Smith, said: “If any proceedings are brought they will be defended vigorously.”
