Former Miller on trial over match-fixing

FORMER Millers star Delroy Facey went on trial this week over allegations of trying to fix football matches.

The 34-year-old former striker is said to have acted as a “middleman” who have already been convicted of match-fixing.

He and former non-league player Moses Swaibu have denied conspiracy to commit bribery at Birmingham Crown Court.

The jury were told Mr Swaibu was one of the players targeted by Chann Sankaran and Krishna Ganeshan, who were both convicted of match-fixing last year.

Facey was allegedly a “fixer” who would “cast his net around to find players who might be willing to take part in match-fixing”.

A conspiracy had taken place and the jury had to decided whether Facey, Swaibu or both were “part of that agreement”, prosecutor Mr Nick Mather said.

The trial continues.
