Former Edlington man jailed after “terrorising victim for years”

A CONTROLLING man who “terrorised his victim over a number of years” — including repeatedly threatening to harm her and burn her house down — has been jailed after being found guilty of engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour.

Christopher Dee, (41), also known as Christopher Williams appeared at Sheffield Crown Court last Wednesday and was sentenced to four years imprisonment after being found guilty of coercive control, and six months imprisonment after being found guilty of threats to damage property. The two sentences will run consecutively.

The court heard how Dee, formerly of Nelson Road, Edlington, had subjected his victim to years of abuse, dating back to 2013.

He was arrested on February 8 last year after his victim, a woman in her 40s, came forward and reported him.

While on bail, Dee breached his bail conditions and repeatedly harassed his victim, threatening to harm her and burn down her home.

He was re-arrested on March 23, 2021, and later charged with engaging in controlling/coercive behaviour, threats to damage property and rape of a woman aged over 16.

Dee was convicted of coercive behaviour and threats to damage property. He was found not guilty of rape.

Speaking on his sentencing, Det Con Alexandra Owen said: “I am pleased that Dee has been rightly handed a custodial sentence.

“He terrorised his victim over a number of years, controlling, abusing her and being violent.

“I hope that, whilst it cannot undo the pain he has caused, this sentencing can help to provide her with closure and enable her to move forward in her life.

“I’d like to commend her bravery and courage in coming forward and reporting what was happening to her."
