Floodwater at Denaby leaves three stranded in car

THREE people were stuck inside a car stranded in floodwater in the early hours of today (Monday).

Fire crews from Rotherham, Dearne, Edlington and Aston Park stations were called to Denaby Lane at Old Denaby at 4.35am.

They waded out to the vehicle and led the people inside to safety. Crews left the scene shortly before 5.30am.

South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue said this morning: “Please, please take extra care on journeys today as surface water and flooding remains an issue across our area and some roads are heavily affected.”

There were two other incidents dealt with by the fire service overnight.

Dearne station firefighters attended a deliberate rubbish fire at 8.25pm on Doncaster Road, Goldthorpe.

And there was an accidental vehicle blaze on Coleridge Road in East Dene. This was attended by crews from Birley Moor station, who left at 10.10pm.
