Flat, car and wheelie bin fires

FIREFIGHTERS attended a flat fire in Maltby along with arson attacks on a car and a wheelie bin during a busy weekend.

Crews from Maltby, Elm Lane and Dearne stations were called to the flat fire at The Maltings, Maltby, at 9.10pm yesterday (Sunday).

Firefighters left the scene at 10.20pm and everyone living in the flat had been accounted for, said a fire service spokeswoman.

The fire was in the hallway and the cause was still under investigation, she added.

Later in the evening, firefighters from Elm Lane station were called to Simmonite Road, Kimberworth Park, at 11.20pm where a car was on fire.

The crew was at the scene for half an hour and the fire was started deliberately.

Arsonists also torched a wheelie bin on Grayson Road, Wingfield, at around 8.50pm. Firefighters from Rotherham station were at the scene until 9.15pm.

Embers from a bonfire are believed to have caused an accidental fire in an outbuilding on Ridgeway, East Herringthorpe, at 8.10pm on Saturday.

Three crews were at the scene until 9pm.
