Five guilty of killing Wath man Craig Preston

THREE “remorseless” teenage boys and a couple have been found guilty of killing a 34-year-old Rotherham man.

Leonie Mason (24) and her lover Shiraz Bashir (42) (pictured above) blamed each other for the death of Mason’s long-term partner Craig Preston last August.

But today (Wednesday) a jury at Sheffield Crown Court convicted the couple, of Holme Park Court, Huddersfield, of murdering Mr Preston (34), of Montgomery Square, Wath (pictured below).

Two 15-year-old boys and a 16-year-old boy — who cannot be named for legal reasons — were also charged with murder after they were recruited by the couple to join in on the attack in a Rockingham lay-by.

The three teenagers were cleared of murder but convicted of manslaughter.

Mason and Bashir were remanded in custody and the youths were remanded into the care of the local authority.

All five will be sentenced at a later date.

Det Chief Insp Steve Handley, the senior investigating officer, said: “The three juvenile defendants, one of whom was just 14 at the time of Mr Preston’s murder, have shown no remorse for their actions, just as Bashir and Mason have denied their guilt throughout.”
