Five arrested after gun spotted and man assaulted in Broom

FIVE people were arrested after an early hours incident where a gun was allegedly spotted and a man was assaulted.

Police were called to Vernon Road, Broom, at around 4.30am last Friday after reports of a man with a gun.

Moments later, police said, a man in his 20s was assaulted by a group of men in Beechwood Road.

A police spokesperson said: “The men fled the scene in two vehicles.

“The victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital via ambulance.

 

“He has since been discharged.

“Both incidents are believed to be linked.”

Broom Lane was cordoned off and there was a high police presence for most of Friday.

Four men — aged 40, 38, 35 and 35 — were later been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent, and a further man was arrested for firearms offences.

All five have since been bailed pending further investigation.
