First ever Mayor's Question Time coming to UTC in Rotherham

YOUNG people from across South Yorkshire are invited to a very first Mayor’s Question Time this week at Rotherham’s University Centre. 

People aged between 14 and 24 are invited to the event hosted by South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard to discuss issues such as public transport, the climate crisis, skills, jobs and much more. 

The event will take place at 6.30pm on Wednesday and aims to give young people a chance to voice their concerns about ongoing challenges society faces in the 21st century.

Mr Coppard is currently in discussions with operators Peel regarding the potential closure of Robin Hood Airport, with the issue expected to be prominent during the debate. 

He said: “I want young people in South Yorkshire to feel able to make their voice heard and play a part in the decisions that will shape their future.  

“When I became South Yorkshire’s Mayor, I promised to do politics differently, and part of that is being transparent and accountable and having conversations with our communities about the region we want to become.  

“Whether you want to know more about what I do, why I’m making the decisions I’m making or just tell me about the issues that matter to you right now, then sign up for Mayor’s Question Time.” 

Anyone in South Yorkshire aged between 14 and 24 is invited to sign up and submit their question in advance.  

There will be food and refreshments, and everyone who attends will get a free South Yorkshire travel day pass to use any time.
