FIREFIGHTERS donned breathing apparatus twice yesterday as they battled a fire at a fashion boutique and a blazing microwave.

The crew from Maltby Fire Station were called to Sunderland Street, Tickhill, at around 8.15pm after a fire in a large wheelie bin spread to a boutique in the village’s former post office.

A crew spokesman said that the premises “well alight” when they arrived, alongside a crew from Harworth, in neighbouring Nottinghamshire.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze, which had also caused damage to two adjoining properties, and were eventually able to leave the scene at around 10.30pm.

The Tickhill incident came less than an hour after a microwave caught fire in the kitchen of a house on Strauss Crescent, Maltby.

The Maltby crew dashed to the blaze at around 7.15pm and entered the property with the help of breathing apparatus.

Minor smoke damage was caused by the fire and firefighters were able to leave the scene after around 30 minutes.
