Firefighters tackle series of arson attacks

A SPATE of arson attacks hit the Dearne Valley last night (Sunday) over a two-hour period.

The first incident occurred on Co-operative Street, Goldthorpe at 9pm when rubbish was deliberately set alight.

A crew from Cudworth station was at the scene for just under an hour.

Arsonists then targeted the railway line near Duftons Close, Conisbrough, at around 9.20pm which has caused delays this morning for passengers.

Edlington station left the scene around 11pm.

Over the weekend firefighters also dealt with two accidental car fires, the first was on Friday night (27) at 10.40pm on Coach Road, Greasbrough, where a Mini Cooper was on fire.

A crew from Rotherham station was at the scene for ten minutes.

An electrical fault caused a car on Cortwonwood Drive, Brampton Brierlow, to set alight at 3.50pm on Saturday.

Dearne station attended the scene and left just after 4pm.
