Firefighters tackle Goldthorpe barn blaze for more than 20 hours

Six fire engines were initially sent to the “well alight” blaze at a barn full of hay at Hollygrove Farm at around 10.30pm on Tuesday.

By Wednesday morning, all but two engines had come away attendance at the farm, off Barnsley Road, had been reduced to two engines and crews left the scene at about 6.40pm.

Investigations are now underway into the cause.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: “There were no reports of any injuries and an investigation into the cause will begin once the fire has been fully extinguished.

“Crews will be returning to the site regularly to check it does not reignite.”

Further inspections of the scene are planned today at the barn, which is 80 metres long and 40 metres wide, with the spokesperson adding they will be revisiting at three-hourly intervals.
