Firefighters save home as roof blazes

FIREFIGHTERS were alerted to two serious house fires—less than an hour and a mile apart.

They were called to a blaze in the roof of a Carver Drive home, Dinnington, at about 2.40pm on Monday.

Twenty firefighters attended from Aston Park, Maltby, Mansfield Road and Worksop stations and spent more than three hours at the semi-detached property. The aerial platform from Doncaster was also called.

A service spokesman said the blaze was believed to be accidental, adding: “The firefighters did an excellent job in containing the fire to that roof, preventing it spreading to the adjacent house.

“They also prevented the risk of more extensive damage to other parts of the home.”

Meanwhile fire crews from Rotherham and Mosbrough were called to Windmill Road, a short distance away in North Anston, shortly after 3.20pm.

The fire started in a conservatory and spread to the kitchen and living room. The rest of the home was smoke-damaged and firefighters left at 7pm.

An investigation into the second fire is ongoing but the spokesman said there were not thought to be any suspicious circumstances.
