Firefighters mount rescue after candle sparks Conisbrough house fire

FIREFIGHTERS rescued an occupant from their home in Conisbrough last night (Thursday) after a candle sparked a fire in the kitchen.

Crews from Edlington, Rotherham and Dearne stations were called to the house fire on Ivanhoe Road at 10.10pm, a spokesperson for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said.

The fire was in the kitchen and was caused by a candle, added the spokesperson.

"The occupant was rescued from the property by firefighters," they said.

"Crews left the scene at 12.05am."

Firefighters from Dearne station were called to a deliberate rubbish fire on Coalpit Road, Denaby, at 11.50pm, and were at the scene until 12.15am, added the spokesperson.
