Firefighters act out dramatic rescue at Dearne Valley lake
Fire crews in action on their exercise at Manvers Lake earlier this week.

FIREFIGHTERS were tested on their water life-saving skills at a Dearne Valley lake where 'dummies' had got themselves in danger.

The emergency simulation on Monday at Manvers Lake tested their response to a report of multiple casualties in distress in the water.

Crews visited a number of lakes and reservoirs across the borough this week to highlight the dangers of open water.

At Manvers Lake, firefighters from Maltby, Dearne and Aston stations were mobilised to the report of a number of youths that had decided to enter the water on an old rubber dinghy. The boat then deflated and left the youths in danger.

"Crews simulated a rapid rescue in a time critical situation and successfully rescued all of the casualties," said a spokesperson for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.
