Firebugs hit Boston Castle site for fourth time in a month

BOSTON Castle’s £1.2 million refurbishment was halted after thieves broke in, stole tools and then torched the developers’ offices.

WORK on the £1.2m refurbishment of Boston Castle has been delayed by an arson attack . . . the fourth in a month.

Security at the site is now being reviewed after vandals torched portable buildings used by contractors William Anelay Ltd.

Friends of Boston Castle and Park secretary Janet Worrall said: “Boston Castle sadly looks more like a fortress, a bad reflection on our town and society.

“The building is in a precarious state at the moment and anyone entering does so at risk to their life.

“This is the fourth incident at the site since the work started on August 15. It started as low-level crime, involving little investigation by the police.

“But this week’s major arson attack will inevitably affect the morale of everyone involved and who have worked so hard to secure funding for the castle’s restoration and now further costs will be incurred.”

A fire service spokeswoman confirmed that the fire had been started deliberately.
