Fire wrecks barn: VIDEO

FIREFIGHTERS are still damping down a blaze at a farm that started on Saturday afternoon.

A barn containing machinery and diesel fuel went up in flames at Brecks Lane Farm, Brecks Lane, East Herringthorpe, at around 4.20pm on Saturday.

Residents living nearby were urged to close their doors and windows as the fire emitted huge plumes of black smoke.

At its height, the fire fighting operation saw four fire engines and up to 20 firefighters from Rotherham, Darnall and Elm Lane fire stations called to the incident.

A fire service spokesman said: “We still have one pump damping down at the farm this morning.

“This was a huge blaze and took some significant effort to extinguish.”

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
