SIX pumps were used by fire crews to bring a blaze at a biomass plant under control.

A blaze amongst recycled wood in an industrial hopper occurred on Saturday at E.ON’s state-of-the-art Blackburn Meadows plant in Tinsley.

Crews were called out at 5.12pm and have continued to make visits each day to the site since.

A fire service spokeswoman said: “Crews worked to bring the fire down to a lower temperature.

“The fire was all indoors so there was no risk to the public.

“There were no injuries.”

She said that Public Health England had visited the site and confirmed there was no risk to the public.

The spokeswoman could not say whether the fire is still burning or when visits by fire crews would cease.
