Fire at flats started by wheelie bin arsonists

A DELIBERATE blaze at a block of flats which caused “extensive damage” was started after arsonists torched a wheelie bin near a communal door, police said

One of the flats caught fire and the building had to be evacuated during the incident on Saturday at Plowmans Way, Wingfield.

Emergency services attended at around 1.10am.

“No-one was injured in the incident, however extensive damage was caused to the building,” said a police spokeswoman.

A cat was rescued from a bin store used by flats on the street.

“The fire is currently being treated as arson and officers are keen to hear from anyone with information about the incident,” added the spokeswoman.
