Film screening raises money for Rotherham’s homeless

A SCREENING of the Ken Loach film I, Daniel Blake raised more than £1,000 for emergency food providers and homeless charities in Rotherham.

The screening of the film, which depicts the harsh realities of austerity, was organised by Rawmarsh Labour Party.

It brought in £1,150 in donations for the “small grants pot” linked to the Food in Crisis Partnership, which is made up of charities and organisations that provide people in need with much-needed support and food.

Shafiq Hussain, deputy chief executive of Voluntary Action Rotherham, who oversees the co-ordination of the partnership, attended the screening.

He said: “I, Daniel Blake is a powerful and emotional drama highlighting how people, through no fault of their own, end up in crisis, with often devastating consequences.

“The importance of the services that the partnership provides in Rotherham cannot be underestimated \_ they are a real lifeline for those who find themselves in crisis situations.”
