Fighters only for Watford, says Rotherham United boss Paul Warne

The Millers, in 20th spot, are straight back into action tomorrow at seventh-placed Watford after the boss was angered by the manner of the 3-1 defeat against the Sky Blues

"There are quite a few issues to sort out, obviously," he said. "There are quite a few questions bouncing around in my head.

We just need to get better at the basics. We didn't address the basics well enough to give ourselves a chance to win a football game. We have to improve them.

"I need to make sure that I pick the 11 who are prepared to fight for the shirt. I know that is a clichéd thing to say, but we definitely need that."

Against Coventry, Rotherham - without a point in their last five fixtures on the road - found themselves 2-0 down in 12 minutes and have begun poorly in all three of their last three away matches.

"The same thing was said after the QPR and Swansea away games: we didn't start the game well and then we are chasing our tails," Warne said.

"On Tuesday, I need a team that is going to start well, keep us in the game and be difficult to break down.

"We have got Watford. If you thought today (Saturday) was hard, get ready for Tuesday night."

Centre-half Angus MacDonald picked up his fourth booking of the season at the weekend and faces a one-match ban if he receives another yellow card.

Meanwhile, the nature and extent of Joe Mattock's injury should become clear later today.

The wing-back was stretchered off during the interval at St Andrew's but, soon after  the final whistle, Warne could offer no details about the damage the 30-year-old had incurred.

"It shows how disappointed I am that I haven't even asked," he said. "I didn't ask at half-time, I haven't asked after the game. I'll do that shortly. I presume it is his ankle, but I don't honestly know."
