Fifth arrest in New Year's Day murder investigation

DETECTIVES investigating the killing of a man in East Dene New Year's Day have arrested a fifth man.

Police arrested a 44-year-old man from Rotherham yesterday on suspicion of assisting an offender in connection with the killing of Fatjon Oruci, a police spokesperson said.

The suspect remains in police custody.

Mr Oruci (22), from London, was found on Doncaster Road at about 1.20am on January 1, the spokesperson added.

A post-mortem examination found he died of catastrophic injuries as a result of beating and he was also stabbed.

A 26-year-old man, a 20-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man who were arrested on suspicion of murder have been released and are no longer being treated as suspects, the spokesperson said.

A fourth man from Rotherham, aged 33, who was arrested on suspicion of murder, has been released under investigation as enquiries continue.
