The 81-year-old from Mexborough Road has decorated his garden with a Christmas theme and people have donated cash because they are so happy to see it.

Roy is collecting the money from members of the public to donate to a Doncaster children’s hospice.

Mr Vickers, a former pub landlord, hit the news in the summer when his garden — resplendent with hundreds of flowers, hanging baskets and tubs — became a local talking point.

Mr Vickers said that his Christmas garden has been equally popular.

He said: “People keep chucking money onto the lawn.”

Rather than being a lifelong gardener, Mr Vickers has only developed his green-fingered skills over the last few years after becoming “bored to tears” when he was 79.
