Fatal Rotherham house fire "not suspicious"

DETECTIVES investigating a fatal house fire say they are not treating the incident as suspicious.

Firefighters from Doncaster, Maltby and Rotherham tackled the blaze on Glaisdale Close, Laughton, on Sunday after being called out at 12.01pm.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “The fire is not being treated as suspicious and a joint investigation between South Yorkshire Police and the fire service remains underway.”

The fire was already out when crews arrived, a fire service spokeswoman said.

She added a man, believed to be in his seventies, died in the incident.

Firefighters spent an hour-and-a-half at the scene.
