Facebook sofa jibe lands man in court

WRITING an inappropriate comment on a Facebook post advertising a sofa for sale landed a man with a criminal conviction.

David Robert Childs (40), of Robin Place, Aston, was given a community order by magistrates at Sheffield on Monday (8) for the online remark.

A woman had advertised the sofa on Dinnington Forum’s Facebook page where the defendant falsely accused her of being a drug addict.

Childs warned readers off buying the piece of furniture, claiming her dog had soiled it.

He admitted sending an electronic communication on January 31 which conveyed false information for the purpose of causing distress or anxiety to the recipient.

He also admitted breaching a restraining order within 24 hours of being handed it at a previous hearing at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on November 10.

Childs was given a four-week curfew and ordered to pay costs of £85 with a victim surcharge of £95.
