The Zoe Mizon Lash Academy and Ladies Lounge in Swinton took the crown in the lashes extension specialists category at the English Hair and Beauty Awards on Sunday.

The Rowms Lane salon, which opened 18 months ago, was up against nine other businesses from around the UK.

Business owner Zoe Mizon (34), of Rawmarsh, said: “I’m really proud.

“When we got to the awards night, people said we should have been asking for votes, which we hadn’t, so we never expected to win.

“I think what has helped us is we specialise purely in lashes where some of the other nominees are general salons.

“We take part in awards because partly because we get constructive feedback from the judges.

“We have a laugh at the academy but we also do high quality work and go on as many courses as possible to ensure everyone is as highly-trained as possible.”

Zoe built up her reputation after coming third in the World Volume Lash Master competition in 2015 and now employs seven people.

She said: “The beauty business is booming — people spend a lot of time on getting the perfect selfie and then when they go out they want to maintain the same level of glamour.”
