“Extremely dangerous” cannabis grow found in Mexborough

POLICE discovered 80 cannabis plants — with an estimated street value of up to £80,000 — at an “extremely dangerous set-up” in Mexborough.

A warrant was executed at an insecure property on Doncaster Road on Wednesday, when officers from Doncaster West Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) discovered the plants, along with a large amount of cropped plants drying ready to be sold.

The electricity had been bypassed – and was so unsafe the road had to be dug up to rectify the damage.

Sgt Liam Watson, from Doncaster West NPT, said: “This was an extremely dangerous set-up that could have easily resulted in a fire in the property.

“I would encourage members of the public to please speak to us if you suspect properties on your streets are being used for this purpose.

“Pieces of information, no matter how small they may seem, can add up to give us a better intelligence picture.

"This enables us to take swift and decisive action, and make properties like this safe.”

The find follows another incident in Wombwell earlier this week when police responding to a report of a house fire found a cannabis set-up in the loft — which officers warned could have been “fatal” in the extreme heat.
