ROTHERHAM smokers who are ready to quit can now access extra support through free group sessions.

NHS Rotherham's Stop Smoking Service are introducing the group sessions in addition to the one-to-one, telephone and drop-in support which is already available.

It is hoped that the sessions will give people the opportunity to share their experience with others and at the same time offer support and encouragement to their fellow group members.

Simon Lister, Rotherham Stop Smoking Service Manager, said: "Our one-to-one sessions have helped many people in Rotherham give up smoking and they continue to be a great success.

"We decided to build on this by introducing new group sessions for those who would prefer to receive advice and help in a group setting.

"Group sessions have an even greater success rate than one-to-one sessions, as a result of the extra support they provide.

"We would like to encourage people who wish to give up smoking to consider these sessions as the starting point for stopping smoking."

The new weekly group sessions will run for seven weeks. These sessions start on the following dates:

  • Monday, November 2, Kiveton Park Medical Centre, 6pm until 8pm.

Wednesday, November 4, Maltby Health Centre, 6pm until 8pm and Dinnington Salvation Army, 6pm until 8pm.

  • Thursday, November 5, Stop Smoking Shop, Bridgegate, Rotherham, 1pm until 2.30pm.
  • Monday, November 9, Swallownest Health Centre, 2pm until 3.30pm.
  • Friday, November 13, Wath Health Centre, 9.30am until 11am.
