PUPILS, staff and parents at a special school are celebrating after being awarded specialist status in communication and interaction.

Milton School in Swinton will now receive extra funding that will go towards a purpose-built communications room on site.

The room will offer language activities for pupils from Milton as well as schools in the surrounding area.

Training, advice and support will be also available to other schools, parents and community groups.

The school on Storey Street caters for seven to 16-year-olds with moderate or complex learning difficulties as well as young people with autism.

It was rated as outstanding by inspectors in the most recent Ofsted visit.

A donation of £15,000 was recently made by the Masons of St George’s Lodge at

Doncaster to equip the room with computers.
