Ex-Rotherham PC charged with sex offence

A POLICE constable has been charged with causing a 15-year-old girl to engage in sexual activity.

A POLICE constable has appeared at court charged with causing a 15-year-old girl to engage in sexual activity.

Daniel Cookson (27), who was previously based in Rotherham, appeared at Leeds Magistrates’ Court today and did not enter a plea.

The offence allegedly took place between March and November 2013.

He was suspended from his position within the South Yorkshire Police force when he was arrested in November, pending the outcome of the investigation.

He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said the allegations do not relate to physical contact and refer to alleged inappropriate communication.

The case was referred to Leeds Crown Court where Mr Cookson is due to appear on September 11.
