Emergency services scour canal after report

EMERGENCY services scoured a town centre canal after reports of a person in trouble on Saturday — but no-one was found in an hour of searching.

Police, fire and ambulance crews attended Greasbrough Road at 4.21pm to conduct s water rescue, a fire service spokeswoman said.

Three appliances from Rotherham, Dearne and Aston Park arrived, along with a dinghy.

They were joined on the scene by police cars and several ambulances.

Blue light workers searched the canal but no casualty was found, the spokeswoman added. Crews left the scene at 5.35pm.
