CHILDREN and staff at a nursery held a picnic in the garden to celebrate 80 years of nursery education at the facility.
Children at Rawmarsh Nursery School and Children’s Centre marked the milestone.
Rawmarsh Nursery School opened in 1939 and staff working at the centre today said it was still at the centre of community activities for children and families.
Executive headteacher Peter Gerrard said: “I’ve worked at Rawmarsh Nursery School and Children’s Centre for eight years and I can say in all honesty the staff are the best of the best.
“Yes, our school is outstanding according to Ofsted, but what makes it special is the complete investment of themselves that staff put into making sure our children and families have the very best start possible to their education.
“We feel lucky and privileged to be still building on the work of our colleagues from back in the 1930s and we hope we’ve done their legacy proud."
