Eight arrests after week of arson and criminal damage at Edlington

EIGHT arrests were made after a spate of criminal damage and arson which police say could have had tragic consequences.

Officers promised increased patrols at the Royal estate in Edlington as they appealed for information about who was involved.

Windows of four properties — two each on Tait Avenue and Violet Avenue — were smashed between July 23 and 27.

An address on Bungalow Road had damage to a window after an arson attack last Monday (27).

And windows of a property on Granby Road were smashed and a door damaged by fire last Wednesday.

Three men — aged 24, 22 and 26 — and a 16-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of serious assault and have been bailed for further investigation.

Three other men — aged 20, 28 and 26 — and another 16-year-old lad were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and conspiracy to commit criminal damage. They have also been bailed.

Insp Richard Mangham said: “Fortunately, no-one has been injured but these incidents had the potential for tragic consequences.

“Officers from our Doncaster West neighbourhood team, Operation Fortify and serious organised crime teams have been working in conjunction to patrol the area and provide reassurance to the local community.

“Increased patrols will continue over the following days as our enquiries continue at pace.

“We would ask the community of Edlington to support these efforts and come forward with any information they have in relation to these incidents.

“Were you in the area at the time? Did you see what happened? Do you know who might have been involved?”

Anyone with information is urged to call 101 quoting incident 603 of July 31.
