Dusting off the Dusty Miller for new future as hotel

A HISTORIC former pub could welcome guests again after two decades — as a 30-room hotel.

The old Dusty Miller at Canklow Road has been empty since an abandoned conversion to shared flats in 2000 but plans have been submitted to revive it.

Applicants Max Manikam Ltd said a hotel development would contribute towards transforming Rotherham town centre.

Planning papers said: “The previous use before permission was granted for residential accommodation was a public house and inn, which was the original use of the building since it was built in 1822.

“The upper floors of the public house were used as rooms to let, very much like the hotel proposed now.

“The proposed development will contribute towards the tourism and visitor economy and contribute towards managing the change in Rotherham’s retail and service centre, as well as transforming the town centre.”
