DROPPINGWELL protesters will demonstrate outside Wednesday’s Rotherham Council meeting as campaigners fear support from the authority is waning.

Members of Millmoor Juniors will wear green and walk from their Kimberworth ground, which neighbours the proposed tip site, for the protest at town hall from 1pm.

The Environment Agency is allowing Grange Landfill to reopen the site and dump 205,000 tonnes a year of inert waste.

Droppingwell Action Group chairman Steve McKenna will present a 2,167-name petition opposing the move at the 2pm meeting.

He said: “We are expecting a good turnout. The reason for the protest is that it’s got to the point now where we feel the council are washing their hands of it and saying there’s nothing they can do.”
