Doncaster Rovers fans who ridiculed autistic Rotherham United supporter are identified

DONCASTER Rovers are pledging to take action against the two supporters caught on video mocking a Rotherham United follower with disabilities during Saturday's derby clash at AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Rovers know who the culprits are after other fans, disgusted by the footage on social media, responded to calls to name them.

Doncaster's chief operating officer, Shaun Lockwood, said on his Twitter page this morning: "Quick update re the video. Thanks to all who sent info. We believe we have identified the individuals. The club will act accordingly."

The  video, recorded by a Rotherham supporter, showed two men laughing and rocking backwards and forwards in apparent imitation of an autistic home supporter who was 'stimming' during the game.

Stimming is where a person with autism makes unusual or repetitive movements such as rocking or hand-flapping as a coping mechanism in loud, overwhelming situations.

The Millers have released a statement saying: "Rotherham United can confirm that the club are aware of an incident which has been brought to our attention on social media and involves two supporters in the away end at our recent game against Doncaster Rovers.

"We are now working closely with South Yorkshire Police and colleagues at Doncaster Rovers to identify the individuals in question and thoroughly investigate the incident.

"We pride ourselves on being a club that provides an environment in which everyone can enjoy football and we will always operate a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of discrimination."

Rovers hope to offer the Rotherham fan a "VIP experience" at the Keepmoat Stadium in the return fixture.
