DISTRICT NEWS: WICKERSLEY

What's happening in and around your village:

TREKKING TO THE TOP: Wickersley Probus Club’s Acting Chairman, Richard Pimperton, welcomed 23 members to the last meeting. The minutes of the last meeting were both read and confirmed. A very warm welcome was given to the afternoon’s speaker, Malcolm Johnson, who gave an inspirational talk entitled ‘Trekking to the top of the world’, detailing a trip to the Everest and Annapura Base Camp. Armed with little more than a bag containing a jacket, two water bottles, a torch and a walking pole, the participants set off on an exciting journey, boasting spectacular views of the mountainous surroundings including Everest. Malcolm also stressed the importance and vital role the Sherpas play for all travellers to the area. A well-merited vote of thanks was then given by David Homer. The Chairman informed the members that there are to be no meetings during the months of July and August, with the next meeting set to take place on Friday, September 16, 2:15pm.

COME ALONG AND CRAFT: Locals residing throughout Ravenfield, Wickersley and Bramley are invited to join in the fun at Ravenfield Craft Group; a friendly mixed-age bunch of people each possessing varying skills and interests who come together to try out different crafts, with hints and tips shared along the way. Of course, a fair amount of nattering goes on too! Recent crafting ventures have included knitting, silk painting, lace making, quilling, Christmas crafts and more, with professional pottery and glass workshops having also been organised for the group. There is a cost to join for the year to cover the price of materials used during the sessions, which is £24 (June 2022 – May 2023). You are welcome to attend and pay per session if you would prefer, or are unable to commit to the regular slots. If you are interested in joining, you can message the Ravenfield Community Group Facebook page and ask for Karen, or you can contact Ravenfield Parish Hall by telephoning Gemma on: 07462468050. Ravenfield Craft Group meet on the first Tuesday of each month, from 7-9pm.
