What’s happening in and around your village...

THURCROFT PARISH CHURCH: The church service is 10.45am each Sunday and all residents are welcome. The church will be open every Thursday morning at 10am to noon as a drop in for tea and a chat session and also to make enquires regarding christenings, weddings or funerals. The cleaning group is the first Tuesday in the month, any help would be appreciated and also any help with the gardening. LITTLE SAINTS TODDLER GROUP: The toddler group is on Mondays at 1.15. to 2.45pm at St Simon’s and St Jude's church. The cost is £1.50 per child and any additional children an extra 50p, this includes a snack and a drink. Booking is not require to but for more information you can contact Moira Leach on 07713403924, this only in term time.

BIG LOCAL: Yorkshire Day was planned for Sunday, July 31, but has now been changed to Saturday, July 30, due to another village event taking place on the Sunday. The event will be at The Hub and starts at 1pm to 5pm, the sports that were planned for the Queen's |Jubilee will go ahead along with a Punch and Judy who will put on two shows during the afternoon. The bar will be open as will the snack bar which will have drinks, hot dogs , sausage rolls and sweets/goodies for sale or alternatively bring your own picnic. Funding for this has come from the community action group that was set up for the jubilee plus a kind donation from the family of Arthur Trickett in his memory. A trip to Cleethorpes has been booked for Thursday, August 25, this bus is now full however if we get enough to fill a second coach then we will look at booking another. SKIPS: A skip has been booked for Saturday, August 13, and will be on the bottom club car park from 9am until full, this is available for all residents to help clear some gardens etc but it is not for business users. There are also restrictions on what can be put in, these are put there by the skip company so volunteers will help on the day. A second skip will be booked in September but the date and place is yet to be confirmed.

SUMMER PLAY SCHEME: This scheme will run from the Friday, August 5, for three weeks during the school holidays, the times will be 10am to 2.30pm and will be held at The Hub. There will be out and inside games, crafts etc, the cost is £2 per child but for this they will also have lunch and drinks will be provided. All are welcome but children five and under must be accompanied by an adult. You do not have to book just turn up on the day, if you have any queries or would like to volunteer to help please contact Shaz Biggin on 07969977294.

YOUTH CLUB: The youth club is open on a Tuesday 6 to 8.30pm for the seniors aged 13 and above, the junior youth club is on a Friday for 9 to 13 year olds at The Hub 5.30 to 7.30pm. For further details contact Shaz on 07969977294. The admission fee is 50p but anyone who is struggling to pay this please contact Shaz. Shaz has met with a community coach from RUFC, they have confirmed that they are applying for community funding and if successful four groups will benefit from this one of them being Thurcroft Youth Club. The troll event still has some funding left so an artist will be working with the junior youth club on a Friday night.

LUNCH CLUB: The lunch club is every Wednesday at The Hub and anyone wanting to join please call Diane Nelson as all meals need to be ordered and paid for by Monday of each week. This is very popular so it is imperative to book by contacting Diane Nelson on 07931411086. You get a hot drink on arrival, bingo and a two course hot lunch for £5.50. Raffle tickets are sold to raise funds for day trips out.

LITTER PICKING: The litter picking group is continuing each week with the regular volunteers but anyone wanting to join or be provided with a picker so they can keep their own street clear please contact Diane Oxley on 07983624459 where the necessary equipment will be supplied. RMBC have been contacted regarding the vast amount of over grown footpaths, walls, kerbs etc, asking if we can apply for a community pay back team to work in Thurcroft to help with this problem, I was informed that we can apply for help but they are already booked up for the next four months, however, if photos are sent in to love where you live they will see if help can be given to work alongside volunteers so photos have now been forwarded to this team.

WALKING GROUP: This is a new group that has formed and will meet every Thursday outside of The Hub at 7pm and it is for all ages. This is a social group which is free and aims to get people out and about and forming new friendships whilst getting some gentle exercise.

CRAFT CLASSES: Monday afternoon in the Gordon Bennett 1 to 3.30pm, anyone wishing to join please call in and see the organisers. This is a well-established long running group and new members always welcome.

THURCROFT TODDLER GROUP: Closed for the summer, re-opening in September.

THURCROFT MUSICAL THEATRE GROUP: Rehearsals are every Monday and Wednesday evenings 7.30 to 9.30pm in the Gordon Bennett Memorial Hall. New members over the of 14 no matter what experience or ability you have. They would love to see some new talent for their upcoming show in December.

ROTHERHAM DEMENTIA CARER AND SUPPORT: A dementia cafe is held on the first Tuesday of the month in the Gordon Bennett 1.30 to 3.30pm. Here they have arts and crafts, live music from Lost Chord and refreshments. Anyone who has any type of dementia can go along and meet with other families and enjoy these social events. Sandra Blockley MBE fund raises each week so these cafes can continue for many years to come.

THURCROFT WELFARE BOWLING CLUB: The club has been established over 70 years and have now welcomed several new members but are always looking for more people to join them. Children who would like to try this sport then free coaching lessons are available on Saturday mornings at 10am to 12 noon. All instructors are DBS checked. WELFARE HALL FRIENDSHIP GROUP: Meet every Tuesday in the Welfare Community Hall 11am to 1pm. You can come along and learn a craft, knit or simply have a natter and a cuppa. This is a free event and children are welcome with parents/grandparents. For further information please call June on 07908578393.

KIDS SUPER HERO DISCO: This will be held in the Welfare Hall on Sunday, July 31, 2 to 5pm. Tickets are limited but the ticket price includes free pop and crisps and prizes will be given for the best costumes. This event has been sponsored by Gary Perrie and Sarah Barrass.

BOROUGH COUNCILLORS: Tom and Zach Collingham are keen for all residents to have contact details for their local neighbourhood PCSO. POLICE DROP IN SESSIONS: These are to be held in the Liberty Church on the following dates, July 27, August 10, September 7 and 21, between 11am and 12 noon. If you have any concerns about anything in the village please go along and report it.

BOROUGH COUNCILLORS SURGERY: Was held on Saturday in the Gordon Bennett Hall. Tom and Zach Collingham attended along with Parish councillor Cath McCartan, three residents attended the session. These will now be held monthly on the first Saturday of the month from 10 to 12 noon. The planned date for the next one is August 6 so if you have any concerns please go along and speak to them directly, however if you need to contact them before email them on the above contact details.
