What's happening in and around your village

THURCROFT PARISH CHURCH: The church service is 10.45am each Sunday and all residents are welcome. The church will be open every Thursday morning from 10am to 12pm as a drop in for tea and a chat session and also to make enquires regarding christenings, weddings or funerals. The cleaning group is the first Tuesday in the month, any help would be appreciated and also any help with the gardening. The parish is still looking for a new vicar and will soon be short listing any applicants with a view to interviewing for the post. LITTLE SAINTS TODDLER GROUP: The toddler group is on Mondays at 1.15 to 2.45pm at St Simon's and St Jude's Church. The cost is £1.50 per child and any additional children an extra 50p, this includes a snack and a drink. Booking is not required and for more information contact Moira Leach on 07713403924 (term time).

BIG LOCAL: Yorkshire Day has been planned for Sunday, July 31, on the Hub field from noon until 4pm. There will be fun and games for children and families. The snack bar and bar will be open and you can bring your own picnic. We are trying to book an entertainer for the children. This fun day is to replace the sports day that should have been held for the Queen's Jubilee. Please come along and support your local community. A trip to Cleethorpes has been booked for Thursday, August 25, and is open to anyone from Thurcroft. The price is £5 per seat even for babies if you need a car seat. Due to problems in the past it is on a first come basis and places will not be reserved. If you want to book a seat call Diane Oxley on 07983624459 to arrange payment. Starting in August, Shaz from the youth club and Big Local, will be having a fun day each Friday at the hub where children can come along and have games, painting, crafts etc. There will be a small charge per child but each will get a hot dog and drink for their lunch, further details will be posted once finalised. The trip to Whitley Bay on July 13 is now full. The coach will leave the Hub at 8.30am and leave for the journey home at 5pm. Any queries please contact Diane Oxley on 07983624459.

YOUTH CLUB: The youth club is opens on Tuesdays, 6 to 8.30pm for the seniors aged 13 and above. The junior youth club is on a Friday for 9 to 13 year olds at The Hub at 5.30 to 7.30pm. For further details contact Shaz on 07969977294. The admission fee is 50p but anyone who is struggling to pay this please contact Shaz.

LUNCH CLUB: The lunch club is every Wednesday at The Hub and anyone wanting to join please call Diane Nelson as all meals need to be ordered and paid for by Monday of each week. This is very popular so it is imperative to book by contacting Diane Nelson on 07931411086. You get a hot drink on arrival, bingo and a two course hot lunch for £5.50. Raffle tickets are sold to raise funds for day trips out. 

LITTER PICKING: The litter picking group is continuing each week with the regular volunteers but anyone wanting to join or be provided with a picker so they can keep their own street clear please contact Diane Oxley on 07983624459 where the necessary equipment will be supplied.

NEW WALKING GROUP: A new walking group has been formed and will meet every Thursday outside of the Hub at 7pm. This is a social group for all ages which is free and aims to get people out and about and forming new friendships whilst getting some gentle exercise.

ROAR TROLL FESTIVAL: The festival took place last Saturday on the ground near the troll. ROAR organised all the day’s events. A parade from the shop fronts led onto the field where the festivities were taking place. Plenty of people attended and listened to live music, drummers, poetry and dancers also performed. There was a circus workshop, where children and adults could learn circus skills. There were craft workshops and one in particular where residents could draw their ideas for two stone benches which will be carved then placed around the troll. 

CRAFT CLASSES: Monday afternoon in the Gordon Bennett 1 to 3.30pm. Anyone wishing to join please call in and see the organisers. This is a well-established, long running group and new members always welcome.

THURCROFT TODDLER GROUP: Meet in the Gordon Bennett on Wednesdays, 1.15 to 2.45pm from birth to 5 years. Six to 12 months £1, 12 months plus £2 then additional sibling 50p. For a snack or tea/coffee 50p. This is run by volunteers and all donations or help are gratefully received.

THURCROFT MUSICAL THEATRE GROUP: Rehearsals are every Monday and Wednesday evenings, 7.30 to 9.30pm, in the Gordon Bennett Memorial Hall. New members over the age of 14 are welcome, no matter what experience or ability you have. They would love to see some new talent for their next show in December.

ROTHERHAM DEMENTIA CARER AND SUPPORT: Hold a dementia cafe on the first Tuesday of the month in the Gordon Bennett, 1.30 to 3.30pm. Here they have arts and crafts, live music from Lost Chord and refreshments. Anyone who has any type of dementia can go along and meet with other families and enjoy these social events. Sandra Blockley MBE fund raises each week so these cafes can continue for many years to come.

THURCROFT WELFARE BOWLING CLUB: Are always looking for more people to join them. For any children who would like to try, free coaching lessons are available on Saturday mornings at 10am to noon. MONEY HELP: A free course is available starting on a Monday at The Liberty Church on Katherine Road 7 until 9pm. It is to help people learn to manage their money better by budgeting, spending well and saving. Anyone interested please phone Tim Walker on 07735464149, The course ends on July 4. 

FAMILY FUN DAY: Will be held on Saturday, July 2, at the Liberty Church on Katherine Road, from 1 until 4 pm. There will be a barbecue, football with Rotherham United Community Sports Trust, face painting, bouncy castles, refreshments and much more. It is a free event and all are welcome .

BOROUGH COUNCILLORS: Tom and Zach Collingham are keen for all residents to have contact details for their local neighbourhood CSO. POLICE DROP IN SESSIONS: Are to be held in the Liberty Church on July 27, August 10, September 7 and 21 between 11am and 12 noon. If you have any concerns about anything in the village please go along and report it.

PARISH COUNCIL: The parish council elections were held on June 23, in total 694 people voted which equates to 15.95% of the actual people eligible to vote. Those elected are Diane Brown, Martin Howis, Cath McCartan, Tommy Murphy, Phil Owen, Diane Oxley, Cath Walker and Anne Winsborough. The next meeting which is on June 30 at 6.30pm in the Gordon Bennett council chambers. Alan West has now left as the clerk to the Thurcroft Parish Council with immediate effect and the vacancy has been advertised, however and new temporary clerk will have to be appointed until a suitable replacement is found.
