Dispersal order in place to prevent town centre trouble

POLICE have authorised a weekend long plan of “action” to make the town centre feel “safer” for residents.

RMBC and South Yorkshire Police will be working together on a joint bid to “tackle” individuals causing anti-social behaviour.

They will have the powers to local sucpects being “harassed, alarmed or distressed” by asking them to leave through a dispersal order.

It is set to last until 10am on Sunday and will cover a large part of the town centre from the New York stadium to Clifton Lane.

Rotherham Central’s Neighbourhood Policing Team want to show that they are “listening” and want to reassure residents that the town centre is “an enjoyable place for those visiting or working there”.
