The dad, who lives with his partner Emily Mitchell (25) and their seven-month-old daughter Daisy Pearce, said he had been “on edge” since the attack by Jake Bartholomew-Mann, who was jailed for 12 years for repeatedly stabbing Mr Pearce

“I don’t sleep at night,” he said.

“I have been put on sleeping tablets and anti-depressants and I have to go for counselling.

“I keep having flashbacks about what happened.”

Neil said he owed his life to the medical team who worked on him on the night of the attack (pictured below in hospital)

“I take my hat off to those nurses who worked on me for four hours straight,” he said.

“I have plates in my head which will never come out.

“If it wasn’t for the NHS staff that night I would have been dead.

“I feel very lucky to be alive.”

Neil said he wanted to visit Bartholomew-Mann (below), who lived on the same estate as him in Flanderwell, to gain some closure.

“I want to go and visit him,” he said.

“I want to know why he thought he could come and do this to a disabled guy.

“I have been a good friend to him. When he has cried for help, I have come to help him.

“When he’s slashed his arms, I have bandaged him up and tried to send him in the right direction.

“I can’t put an answer as to why he did it, and that’s why I want to go and see him, to get closure.”

Neil also paid tribute to his family and friends for their support since the attack.
