Detective appeals for witnesses to Maltby stabbing

A DETECTIVE has appealed for witnesses to a stabbing which left a 30-year-old man in a critical condition in hospital.

Emergency services were called to Churchill Avenue, Maltby, at 11am yesterday (Sunday) following reports that a man (30) had suffered a knife wound to his neck, a police spokeswoman said.

A Rotherham man (32) was arrested nearby on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and remains in police custody, while the victim remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Senior investigating officer, Det Chief Insp Simon Palmer, of South Yorkshire Police's Major Crime Unit, said: “Officers have remained in the area over the past 24 hours and searches will continue in Maltby today.  

“Our priority is to establish what happened in the minutes leading up to the man suffering such a serious injury.

"I am appealing for any witnesses to come forward and speak to us with information.

“If you were in the area and saw, or captured anything on dash cam or CCTV footage, please call us.”
