Derelict building fires were started deliberately

TWO derelict buildings were torched in arson attacks over the weekend.

Firefighters from Rotherham and Maltby stations were called to a derelict building on Doncaster Road, Dalton, on 3.30pm on Saturday and found two areas of fire spreading into the roof space, a spokesperson for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said.

Crews left the scene at 3.50pm and deemed the fire to have been started deliberately.

Firefighters were called to another derelict building on Laudsdale Road, East Herringthorpe, at 6.17pm on Saturday, said the spokesperson.

A small amount of wall insulation on the first floor landing had been set alight deliberately.

Crews from Maltby, Parkway and Aston Park stations were called to a recycling building on Mangham Road, Parkgate, on Friday evening, said the spokesperson.

Smoke could be seen coming from the building when crews arrived.

They were at the scene until 9.15pm and the fire was started accidentally, said the spokesperson.
