Dementia charity Lost Chord expanding

SOUTH Yorkshire dementia charity Lost Chord has expanded into bigger premises as demand for its services continues to grow.

The organisation has moved into Wesley Centre in Blyth Road at Maltby.

"Lost Chord is becoming so successful that we have considerably outgrown our previous premises," said founder and Chief Executive Helena Muller.

"We are delighted to be able to announce this move which gives us so much more space and facilities as well as providing meeting rooms to run training sessions, hold trustees meetings and for us to meet our many volunteers and supporters."

Lost Chord provides interactive musical experiences for people struggling with dementia in care homes and day centres across South Yorkshire as well as in London, South Wales and Coventry.

The charity's patron, opera star Lesley Garrett, last year launched the High Notes appeal, which aims to raise £103,000 towards annual running costs of £200,000.

And as that campaign continues, Helena and her team will be hosting an open day at the charity's new home on February 14, between 11am and 12 noon, when members of the public will have the opportunity to find out for themselves how they could get involved in the work of Lost Chord.

"We are always looking for volunteers who are willing to help with our programme of musical events but we also need people to help us by raising extra funds for us," said Helena.

"There are so many ways this can be achieved and if you come along on February 14 you'll be able to talk to myself and Lost Chord Fundraising Manager Tina Harrison about the many things you could do to ensure Lost Chord's future growth and success.

"Professional trained musicians provide almost 900 Lost Chord concerts each year, operating in more than 80 care homes and stimulating some extraordinary responses on every occasion but it is only with the public's continued support that this level of service can be maintained."
