Decision on new £2.1 million day centre due 'within weeks'

A LOCATION for the new £2.1 million Reach adult day centre will be decided within weeks.

Cllr David Roche, RMBC cabinet member for adult social care and health, told councillors that he would meet with officers to confirm the site in the next month.

Rotherham Council budget to move the Reach provision for people with learning disabilities — despite closing similar provision elsewhere in the borough.

A 90-day public consultation ran until April to collect views about the centre, currently based on Badsley Moor Lane.

It has already been decided that a new name will be used, as online searches bring up the court case which saw two staff jailed for neglect in 2021.

The council says it wants the change to reflect how much the service has moved on.

However, a review into those past failings — relating to abuse between 2008 and 2017 — has yet to be published.
